Love Isn't
Love isn’t red roses and kisses at dawn -
It is the color of blood as it’s drawn,
Causing a hurt that most everyone knows.
It’s a tumor, once it is there, it grows.
Love isn’t slow dancing and passion and songs -
It’s the cry of the heart as it yearns, as it
longs,
For a love that is equal, but most often not
true.
It’s stumbling home from the bar without even a
shoe.
Love isn’t smiles and fluttering lashes –
It’s the bending of metal as a car crashes,
Leaving behind evidence of what has been done,
It’s the scalding heat that comes from the sun.
Love is a poison that runs through each vein.
It’s an ornery horse that no one can tame.
It’s a man smirking at a bottle filled with tears
he collects,
Causing nothing but pain to all he affects.
